Why Don't We Need RSS Readers
Once a good friend of mine says:
I don't need RSS, neither do all of you.
Made me think of how RSS works and whether I really need it.
This conversation started with a great app: Folo, which is a modern RSS reader, actively developing in all-platform. I didn't use an RSS reader ever since Google Reader shut down on July 1st 2013 (it was really a wonderful RSS reader, I had used it for a long time and subscribed a bunch of wonderful blogs back then). One day, all of a sudden, there was AI feature added to Folo, right on the front page of the app, And I didn't find a close button. This drove me crazy!
I complained about it. Then the friend told me we don't need an RSS reader. I started to think if I really need such a thing. In fact, I kind of felt like I don't really need it not only because RSS readers are outdated, but also because everything I do in an RSS reader can be done with a few clicks.
I subscribed to 20 RSS feeds and open Folo about 3 times a week. I can just type all 20 URLs since I type too many times that I already remember them and read the content in an hour (only the updated ones).
If the number of subscribed websites grows, I would make a list of websites. Calling it "siteroll" seems nice to me. I would click them one by one. I will see both content and the websites themselves, I think it is better than reading the content only.
Day 20.
