IMs will all become enormous

Elon Musk released a Telegram/Signal/WhatsApp alternative instant messeger app called X Chat recently. I searched it and found out that it was announced about 6 months ago. This reminds me of a bunch of IMs that I have been used before.

I started using IM since I was a kid. In 2002 I have my first QQ account. Later I found out that QQ is basically a copycat of ICQ, so I registered an ICQ account because of my hatress to QQ (QQ was first called OICQ, what a joke). I even tried to add some foreigners for chatting in English. Then there came Facebook Messager, Instagram and WhatsApp. I didn't use them much because nobody actually used them since I am in China. I did use them when I entered the E-commerce market because of marketing demands, but still I didn't talk about things besides products and services and ads marketing.

In 2011, the most important IM in the history of China released: WeChat. It was so great, until it's not. after over a decade of development, it is a giant mountain of shit codes. Unfortunately, no one in China can have a proper life without it. It's a shame and we can do nothing about it.

The next important IM (to me) is Telegram. It is probably the best IM tool I have used. It's fully functional, a lot of features, super fast and has almost unlimited storage space (before 2023 I guess). I'd like to call it a perfect version of WeChat. Until Elon Musk said WeChat is a great app (Elon doesn't build Telegram though). Now it(Telegram) has ads, premium membership, even a Wallet I doubt nobody would use.

We live in a society that everyone communicates. IM has been and always will be a highly important part of it. Although the biggest ones are controlled by largest companies in the world, but when there is Internet, IM lives forever. Now that almost every IM is free, so we are the product, a wise man once said.
